Open Letter to Gov. Huckabee and Supporters

To Gov. Huckabee and all Huckabee Supporters:

I too was once like you and supported the “Huckabee movement” of strict social values and bringing faith, family, and values back to the White House.  However, we have to come to an understanding; Gov Huckabee doesn’t have a chance of winning the White House, at least not yet anyway.  We as Conservative American’s are left with two choices for President: McCain and Romney.  We have to come together and ask ourselves the simple question who will be the best choice to lead the CONSERVATIVE movement in the US, and carry on the tradition of Reagan.  The answer certainly isn’t Sen. McCain.

For all of you who support Gov. Huckabee I applaud you in your willingness to embrace around the true social conservative in this race, but you have to come to a realization that he can’t win.  As funny and as charming as he is in person and in debates, he simply cannot pull this country together and lead the Fiscal and Social Conservative movement in this country, at least not yet.

We as Conservatives who TRULY care about this country, our values, and the fundamental system that makes up this great party need to come together and rally around Romney, because although he’s not the best choice between Huck and Romney, he’s the ONLY choice to carry the movement to the White House.

We need to realize that this split that currently exists in the Conservative movement is only going to destroy the movement, not help it.  Why is it that when Gov Romney changes his position he’s called a Flip Flopper, but when McCain does it its called listening to the voters?  Yes, Gov Romney changed his position on Abortion and Stem Cell Research, but need I remind you at one time our Greatest President of the conservative movement Ronald Reagan supported Abortion?  As Gov. of California he supported Abortion, and the more he learned about it and more came out about it he changed his position.  Is that Flip Flopping?  No that’s called understanding, grasping knowledge of the greater issue at hand.  So why is it when Romney does it we call him a flip flopper?

In Jan of 2007, when the surge first started and the war was HIGLY unpopular, Sen. McCain called for benchmarks in Iraq, where if the Iraqi’ s didn’t meet these marks we’d have to examine our support in Iraq and possibly withdraw…."Asked what penalty would be imposed if Iraq failed to meet his benchmarks, [McCain] said: 'I think everybody knows the consequences. Haven't met the benchmarks? Obviously, then, we're not able to complete the mission. Then you have to examine your options.'" (Margaret Talev, "McCain Suggests Iraqi Government Meet Benchmarks," Knight Ridder, 1/25/07.  Yet now that the surge is working and the war isn’t as unpopular as it once was McCain says he never supported benchmarks.  Is this called Flip Flopping?  No instead we call it “listening to America”.

Sen. McCain has constantly changed his position on immigration.  At last nights debate McCain said he’d never sign McCain-Kennedy if it came to a vote: QUESTION: "At his point, if your original proposal came to a vote on the Senate floor, would you vote for it?" MCCAIN: "It won't. It won't, that’s why we went through the debate." QUESTION: "But it did..." MCCAIN: "No I would not because we know what the situation is today." (CNN, [Unverified Transcript], Republican Presidential Candidate Debate, Simi Valley, CA, 1/30/08)  But just THREE days ago on Meet the Press McCain said if he was President he WOULD sign the bill: “NBC'S TIM RUSSERT: "If the Senate passed your bill, S.1433, the McCain/Kennedy immigration bill, would you as President sign it? MCCAIN: "Yeah. But look, the lesson is, it isn't - one, it isn't going to come. It isn't going to come." (NBC's "Meet The Press,"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLWRW4GoGHY, 1/27/08)  But to we call this flip flopping?  No instead we call it “Listening To America”

There are tons of other issues where McCain has said one thing in the 2000 primaries, and changed his positions in 2008.  Why has he does this?  Simply because in 2000 his policies couldn’t get him elected, so he changed his mind in 2008 so he could win.  The fact of the matter is McCain is a hot headed politician, who uses profanity, anger, and aggression to tell off senators in Congress when he doesn’t get his way.  Is that someone we want to lead the conservative movement?  Doesn’t seem like someone who respects values much to me.

The fact of the matter is we need to come together around a candidate who can win, and win the conservative movement in 2008.  We need someone who can take the White House away from the democrats like Obama and Clinton, and still hold the conservative values we all share.  Unfortunately, it’s not Gov. Huckabee’s time.

I’m calling for Gov. Huckabee to withdraw from the race for the better of this country.  Because if Gov. Huckabee doesn’t pull out of the race McCain will either be destroyed in the November election and we will have a Clinton or Obama White House, or McCain will win and bring liberal values, to the White House which will destroy the Republican Party and the conservative movement.

Gov. Huckabee if you truly care about this country and the good of our party please withdraw from the race for the better of our country, our faith, OUR VALUES, and our party.
